Quote of the day!

“In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on.” - Robert Frost

PUB 5- My Verse

Poetry can best be defined as literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature. They are meant to express or convey a certain message. Poetry can be found in many types of work such as song lyrics, commercials, and rap. Many songs can relate to pieces of poetry by using tone and theme to communicate the same ideas. The song “Hello” by Adele directly relates to the poems , “A Love Song” by William Carlos Williams and “I Am Not Yours” by Sara Teasdale. They all make the reader feel a source of sympathy with the theme of heart-break and emotion. The tone of both the songs and the poem is a sad yet slow tone that goes along with the emotion you feel with heartbreak.     Heartbreak is a feeling that everyone experiences throughout their life. The song “Hello” by Adele is a song that enhances your feelings towa...

Quote of the day!

“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”  ―  Rob Siltanen

Reflection

I received more than an education leaving this class. I gained new friends, abilities, ideas, and perspectives. It was an experience where I will leave knowing I gained something. What I liked most about the class was our class discussions. Whether it was fishbowl or just a class lecture, we constantly got to hear everybody's questions and thoughts. I gained new perspectives from hearing peoples opinions. It helped me think outside of the box and realize things maybe I hadn't thought of before. I met people in the class who I had things in common with. I was able to relate to many people. I was also able to gain new insight even from the people who I didn't relate with. The class blog was a great way to share our ideas as well. Reading my classmates published writing sparked new ideas in my head and inspired me. I got to see how intelligent my classmates are. I liked the feeling of the whole class learning together.      Just ...

PUB 3- Freedom

Freedom can be defined as the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. There has been a constant fight for freedom all throughout history. This idea can be supported by Egalitarian beliefs. In Webster’s dictionary, Egalitarianism is “the belief in human equality especially with respect to social, political, and economic affairs; a social philosophy advocating the removal of inequalities among people”. Many different types of people with all different backgrounds have faced struggles and fought battles just to gain the equality that they knew they deserved. A famous man named Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader of the civil rights movement. He once stated ”Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.” This quotes expresses the struggle to gain equality in our country. It also shows how it has been a constant battle throughout history for some whether it be fr...

Marginalization Paper

Grace DiMuccio Professor J. Migano Brady EGL 102 20 April 2018 Marginalization in Society Marginalization is a serious form of oppression that can have major effects on individuals socially, economically and politically. Within the short stories The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and White Woman of Color by Julia Alvarez , you see the roccurance of the major theme of marginalization. The main character Ms. Mallard in The Story of an Hour shows feelings of joy after finding out she is able to be “free”. In the past she was marginalized based on her gender and role in society by her husband. After his death she feels a sense of relief as though she’s not being oppressed by him anymore. Julia Alvarez talks about her experiences of marginalization in The White Women of Color . She explains the struggle and hardships she faced growing up as a Dominican girl in the United States. PUB 1- Antigone

“When we stand up for what we believe in—for whats right—there is always a chance that we risk the very things we fight for: our safety, our lives, our freedom. But if we stand down, the risk is definite” (Kelseyleigh Reber). This quote describes the very motive for the antagonist of the play, Antigone. Antigone is a character who you would describe as courageous and brave.  Antigone values family and loyalty even though she defied the king by burying her brother Polyneices. She may have been going against what the written law was, but to her she was doing what was morally correct. Creon has authority but Antigone believes he is unfit to be king and doesn't understand whats actually important when it comes down to it. Antigone was making a scene of her actions to make change for the future. It was brought to attention that she did not really commit an actual crime by burying her own brother after he died heroically ...

The Tragic Hero Paper

Grace DiMuccio  Professor J. Migano Brady  EGL 101  11 March 2018 The Tragic Hero Throughout literature, there are certain characters portrayed as “Tragic Heroes”, or the central character in a tragedy.  These are very important characters because somehow or someway they are intended to teach the audience a lesson. These tragic heroes often have flaws that cause conflict for them later on within the play. These tragic heroes are responsible for their own fate and more often than not, it leads to a tragic death. The plays “Antigone” by Sophocles , and “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams show great examples of characters who have the traits to be considered the “Tragic Hero” and some who may be considered the “anti-hero”.  Sophocles once stated, “ The greatest griefs are those we cause ourselves.” People who end up in situations they don’t want to be in, put themselves in that position in the firs...
